Columbia Chiropractor : What to Expect
Welcome to Adams Chiropractic Clinic
Since chiropractic care involves a series of visits, with each one building on the ones before, it’s important that our relationship goes the distance. We’ve found that one of the best ways to have successful patient relationships is to explain everything in advance. No surprises!
Your First Visit
Searching out and finding the “root source” of your complaint or pain is the focus of your first appointment.
First, we ask you for a complete history of, not only your current health or pain, but a look at your past medical history, as there may well be something in it that you do not relate to your current complaint.
The doctor will review this history with you, discuss any prior care or testing, and then begin your physical and chiropractic examination. Based on your examination findings the doctor will then make recommendations for either further testing (x-rays, MRI, lab testing, etc.), whatever he feels may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis of your complaint.
Pain Relief or Optimal Function, Health and Wellness
Many times the doctor will be able to make a diagnosis of your condition just by examination, orthopedic and neurologic findings. He may then prescribe for you a treatment plan that is initially aimed at “getting you out of pain.” We call this the “acute or relief care” portion of your treatment plan.
This portion of your treatment plan is designed to “get you back in action,” but you will be educated along the way by the doctor, as well as through this website. You will then have a decision to make…do I want pain relief? or do I want to fully correct my spine and achieve optimal function, health and wellness.
You will want to allow 45 minutes to an hour for your first visit, and 30-40 minutes for each visit thereafter. On your first visit please bring any and all previous tests (x-rays, MRI, etc.) and insurance information (if you have coverage and are wanting to file), as well as any information relating to a work or auto accident if this is the cause of your complaint.
After your appointment with the doctor, you will check out with our helpful front desk staff and schedule your next appointment, and any future appointments (so we can be sure and reserve the time that works best in your schedule). We will be sure and check with you as you exit to make sure there are no further concerns or questions that need to be addressed.
Your Second Visit
The doctor will discuss with you your response to your first visit, any concerns you may have, and make any modifications that may be necessary in your care.
Remember, not all patients will respond the same. Response to care may be based on age, your work, and each individuals overall physical health and physical fitness.
In the event the doctor is satisfied with your response you will continue with pre-treatment therapy, and then receive your second spinal manipulation.
You will also receive further information on your treatment plan and what you may begin to do at home to help the doctor help you “get out of pain” as quickly as possible.
The more you understand who we are, what we do and why we do it, the better results you’ll enjoy. It’s as simple as that.
